Laurel Awning Company...

Awning Artistry for Over 90 Years!

How Awnings are made:

Patio/Deck Canopies...

Patio/Deck Canopies are all custom made from raw materials...  They do not come "off the shelf" or out of a box!   Patio/Deck Canopies are sometimes referred to as "Fixed Frame" Awnings because their frames are rigid, stay up year round  and do not fold up.

    It’s a 4 or 5 step process:

1) Our Sales Representative designs the Awning & helps the Customer choose a fabric, binding & pattern for the cutout design at the bottom of the curtain.

 2) Our framing crew custom builds the frame on site.  We use an    aluminum "Header" which is attached to your home.  The "Rafters" are then attached to the header.

Our frames are constructed from "Schedule 40" hot dipped galvanized pipe.  We use only plated cast iron fittings.

Some one-story structures require the installation of "Gutter Brackets" in order to obtain the necessary height at the back of the Awning or "pitch" so that the Awning will drain properly.

The Gutter Brackets are then "Dressed" with a
 decorative canvas "Rain Flap".

3) Our Fabric Shop custom manufactures the cover to the measurements supplied by the framing crew.

4) The Installers return to the premises & fit the cover.

5) In some instances an additional adjustment of the Cover is required at the Fabric Shop.

Porch/Window Awnings...

Porch/Window Awnings are custom made from raw materials... They do not come "off the shelf" or out of a box!  Porch/Window Awnings are sometimes referred to as "Loose Frame" Awnings because their frames are not rigid and may be roped to fold up against your home.

    It’s a 3 or 4 step process:

1) Our Sales Representative designs the Awning(s) & helps the Customer choose a fabric, binding & pattern for the cutout design at the bottom of the curtain.  Frames may styled in a traditional wedge shape.

OR a Box Awning ......

To accommodate windows or doors that swing out.

One of the most important issues when choosing porch or window Awnings is to decide how far down the window or porch opening you would like the Awning(s) to extend.  This is referred to as the Awning's "Drop".

There is no hard or fast rule...  It's entirely up to your own taste.  Some Customers choose to have the Drop come half way down the opening.  Others choose a Drop that's slightly shorter.  Please bear in mind that once the Awning is manufactured it can not be returned or changed without additional cost.

In instances where the Drop is less than 24" (2') we recommend that you consider a Slant Sleeve Awning.

The use of Slant Sleeves may prevent shorter Drop Awnings from looking "squat".

2) Unlike Patio/Deck Awnings. Porch/Window Awnings are manufactured entirely at our plant.  Our Fabric Shop custom manufactures your Awning(s) to the measurements supplied by your Sales Representative.

                    3) The Installers return to the premises & mount your Awning(s).

 4) In some instances additional adjustments of the Awnings are required at the Fabric Shop.

Drop Awnings...

Drop Awnings are custom made from raw materials... They do not come "off the shelf" or out of a box!

    It’s a 3 or 4 step process:

1) Our Sales Representative designs the Awning(s) & helps the Customer choose a fabric, binding & pattern for the cutout design at the bottom of the curtain.  Drop Awnings are available in two basic styles:

               a Roll Up Drop

OR a Fold Up Drop

Roll Up Drops are somewhat easier to pull up & have a more contemporary look.  Pull Up Drops have the look of a "Roman Shade" with a decorative curtain along the bottom.

2) Unlike Patio/Deck Awnings. Drop Awnings are manufactured entirely at our plant.  Our Fabric Shop custom manufactures your Awning(s) to the measurements supplied by your Sales Representative.

                    3) The Installers return to the premises & mount your Awning(s).

4) In some instances additional adjustments of the Awnings are required at the Fabric Shop.
