The Spotted Lanternfly & Your Awnings
The Spotted Lanternfly is an invasive species native to Asia and has since spread to our local area. It lays eggs on almost any surface making early detection critical to stopping the pest from spreading, and causing damage to your awning.
As the spotted lanternfly feeds, the insect excretes honeydew (a sugary substance) which can attract bees, wasps, and other insects. The honeydew also builds up and promotes the growth for sooty mold (fungi), which can cause damage to your awning. Due to this we highly suggest awning cleanings this season.
During our awning takedown process we will inspect your awning for any spotted lanternfly egg sacks and try to remove them the best we can. An additional inspection for eggs will be done during your Repair Inspection.
There are a number of products out there to kill spotted lanternflies. We do not suggest using any chemical type products on your awning, as they can damage and stain the fabric. Rather, we suggest using a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar.
